After high school I started working and went to college at
night. In August 1979 I married my high school sweetheart,
Robert Whalen(who is in the same class) I worked for a computer
company for 12 years, which was bought out by another company.
In 1979 Robert and I starting building our house in Desoto.
We lived in this house for about 11 years. In 1983 our first
son Jared was born. In 1987 after returning to work after
having our second son, Nicholas I found out that the company
I had worked for for the last 12 years was being bought out.
In August 1987 the company laid off about 150 people and at
that time I expected to be laid off with everyone else. I
was looking forward to this because if they laid me off I
was going to receive a years pay. At this time I had completed
my Associates Degree in Business. Well I wasn't laid off,
but I took the opportunity to take a years pay and I quit
work with two young sons(Jared was 4 and Nick was 6months)
and went back to school full time. This was a large challenge
and Robert was very supportive.
I received my BBA in Accounting in December 1989. At this
time I went to work for a CPA firm and started studying for
the CPA exam, which I passed 3 out of 4 parts in April of
1990. I then took the last exam in November and received my
CPA certification.
In July 1991 Robert and I sold our house in Desoto and moved
to Southwest Arlington. In October 1992 I went to work for
Turbomeca Engine Corporation, which is a French owned company
which repairs and overhauls helicopter engines. The engines
are actually manufactured in France. I started out as a cost
accountant and became the Accounting Manager. After 5 years
I left and went to work for American Eurocopter that builts
the helicopters that the Turbomeca Engines go in and was next
door to Turbomeca. I worked there for 3 years. I received
a phone call in January 2001 and they asked me to come and
be the Director of Finance, which I did in !
February 2000. I go to France about 2 to 3 times a year now.
I have been here a total of 6 ½ years. I do not speak
French, but I would like to learn.
Our children our now 17 and 14. We have been spending alot
of time researching colleges for our son Jared. Both of our
sons go to Martin High School, which has about 4000 students.
Jared's graduating class will be about 900. Nick is in his
first year of high school and is going to do wrestling and
cross country. Between work and our kids we keep extremely
busy.
Well I think that is a summary in a nut shell.
